It had been a year since I found it.
It was like a little pea.
It didn’t go away
So I went to the Doctor to see.
I didn’t want to see the Doc.,
But I stepped up to the plate.
When the Doctor said, “It’s cancer!”
I knew I couldn’t wait.
Two surgeries, radiation,
And six months of chemo too.
By the time they got finished with me,
I didn’t know what to do.
I thought of this as an ‘ugly job.’
It has a start and finish.
I will not let cancer own me
Nor my life will it diminish.
I’ll continue to hike and to walk,
I will enjoy each minute.
With my family and my dear friends
I will, indeed, win it.
